Windshield Replacement Services

The Best Windshield Replacement Service in Santa Ana, CA

The windshield is by far the piece of auto glass that we find ourselves replacing the most in our business. It's not exactly surprising, considering the fact that the windshield bears the brunt of the elements when you're driving.

Pebbles, rocks, and other debris kicked up by the tires of other vehicles can really take their toll on windshields even if you're not following very closely behind them. It's also fairly common to get a chip or crack in your windshield from debris bouncing off another vehicle or flying out of the bed of a truck. When that happens, it's important to have somebody come out and fix the damage as soon as possible.

Whether you need windshield or factory-grade, we provide quality service and a guarantee. Santa Ana Auto Glass Repair offers windshield replacement services for people who have damaged windshields that cannot be safely fixed by a simple repair service. Using the Right Materials is Important

When we perform a windshield replacement service, we offer Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) or Factory glass. As the name suggests, it's from the same manufacturer that supplied the glass to the factory when the vehicle was made. OEM glass is considered to be of the highest quality, since the factory requires it to conform to strict standards supplied by the manufacturer of the car.

Auto glass is one of the most underrated structural support features of a vehicle. Your vehicle's windshield is what shields you from the elements and debris on the road, protecting you from potential injuries. Proper air bag deployment in the event of an accident also depends on the windshield and side windows being installed correctly. So when your windshield is broken, chipped or cracked, it's important to repair it as soon as possible.

Your safety is our top priority. That's why all of our auto glass replacement services are performed in compliance with the highest applicable federal standards, so that you don't have to worry about whether or not you've received a quality windshield or glass replacement. We also put our technicians through ongoing training as new materials and faster methods are developed for glass repair and replacement services so that we always keep up with the industry standard.

Windshield Replacement Without Insurance

We get asked a lot of questions about where insurance fits in when it comes to a windshield replacement. For someone with a comprehensive insurance policy, the cost of the service will typically be covered in full, minus the deductible. For those without insurance or without the necessary coverage who plan on paying out of pocket, there are factors to consider to help you estimate the cost.

The cost of a windshield replacement typically ends up being somewhere in the $300-$600 range. Most can expect to pay somewhere between $400-$500. Some of the factors that need to be considered are the make, model and year of the vehicle, any sensors or wipers, and the type of glass desired. For example, if you have a luxury car or a collectible, the price can be $1,500 for a windshield replacement repair.

FAQ About Windshield Replacement

  • How much does a windshield replacement cost?

If you're planning to pay out of pocket--without involving insurance--you can expect a cost somewhere between the $400-$600. But this is a broad generalization. As cars become more advanced and add more sensors and technology, this requires more time and expertise on behalf of our specialists, which will increase the cost.

  • What are the factors that affect windshield replacement cost?

The main factors that will determine the final price of a windshield replacement are:

    • Year, make and model of vehicle
    • The number of sensors
    • The type of windshield needed
    • The location (front or back windshield) and extent of the damage

Certain brands (BMW, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, etc.) require specific windshields that increase the cost of repairs. Other brands (Mazda, for example) tend to have more sensors than others on some of their models, which also increases the cost.

  • When should a windshield be replaced instead of repaired?

If you have a large crack or chip in your windshield, or if you notice that your windshield is becoming foggy in between the panes of glass, a windshield replacement might be the best solution.

  • How long does a windshield replacement service take?

The whole process of a windshield replacement takes a couple of hours to complete.

  • How long do I have to wait after a windshield replacement service before I can drive?

Curing is the most important thing once a replacement has been completed. The amount of time it takes will depend on the weather conditions and the type of urethane used. But for the most part, you can expect to be able to drive away about an hour after your new windshield has been installed.

The Windshield Replacement Process

Although there are a lot of factors that determine the cost of the service, the service itself is pretty much the same no matter what vehicle you have.

  1. Removing the Trim - The old trim that's holding the windshield in place will be removed. Usually a razor is used to do this, which loosens the windshield enough for it to be lifted.
  2. Windshield Removal - When the trim is removed, the repair technician will use large suction cups with handles to pop the windshield out of place and lift it away from the car.
  3. Cleaning & Preparation of Pinch Weld - Once the windshield has been removed, the small gap between the windshield and the body of the car that is referred to as the "pinch well" can be cleaned and prepared for the new piece of glass. Over time, all sorts of dirt, dust and urethane builds up in this area, and proper cleaning is important for the vehicle to properly hold the new windshield in place.
  4. Urethane Application - In the newly cleaned pinch well, urethane is applied to the edges, acting like a glue that will hold the windshield in place. This is one of the most quickly-performed steps in the windshield replacement process, because the urethane cannot be allowed to dry or set before the new auto glass can be set into place.
  5. New Windshield Installation - The most exciting step! The new windshield is carefully fitted into the vehicle, perfectly positioned within the pinch well. Suction cups and bars are then used to push it properly into place, holding the glass in place until the urethane begins to set. Once that begins, the suction cups can be removed and the urethane will completely cure.

Our auto glass specialist know each of these steps like the back of their hand. They could perform this entire service blindfolded!
